Updated to be for the most recent flooding further south!

If you don't know yet, here in Louisiana and surrounding areas we had one hell of a natural disaster. South Louisiana received about 20 inches of rain in 2 days, starting August 13th, and it continued to rain for days. It is bad, very bad. So much rain in such a short amount of time made the rivers, bayous, ponds, and drain ditches rise very quickly and get overloaded. The water quickly had nowhere else to go. So, much of Louisiana ended up under water. 11 people in Louisiana died and many, many more lost everything.

My heart has been incredibly heavy since Saturday when the reports of flooding started coming in. I take on others sadness so deeply and this was no different. I have watched as my southern family lost everything. I watched as my state's heart was broken by all the disaster. And my heart broke.

Many friends and family here in northwest Louisiana just got back into their homes after the flooding destroyed their homes in March. It is mind-blowing that we are, yet again, experiencing historic flooding in places that haven't ever flooded or haven't in many, many decades.

I will say that I could not be more proud to be a Cajun right now though. Because we have coined all the amazing civilians down south that are getting out in their own boats to rescue, the Cajun Navy. And that level of community, love, and support is what is so beautiful about humans. In any natural disaster there is bad, but you also get to see the love that exists between the people. And it really is so beautiful that it almost brings me to tears.

I honestly have felt so beyond helpless this time around because it isn't in my area of the state and I had no idea what to do. So, I have been trying to find a way to help. I have decided to do two things to help as much as possible!
