My Grandparents | The Sweetest Love!
My grandparents. They have inspired me in ways I probably don't even know yet. They have the most beautiful and loving relationship. They love Christ and serve him in all they do. My Grandpa, Papa Buddy, treats my Mama Betty (we say Mama Buddy bc as kids we couldn't distinguish...) like she is truly made of gold. And she treats him the same. They are my actual relationship goals!
I've always found wrinkles gorgeous. People think I'm nuts, and that's ok. I'm an artist, I'm not supposed to think like everyone else. And, how boring would it be if everyone was the same? So, I have had this deep deep desire to photograph my grandparents. But, both of my grandmother's refuse to have their picture taken. I understand and I haven't forced them to. A few months ago though, I just decided we had to do it. We need beautiful portraits of them and I have this strong desire to photograph any and all women above 60. They aren't celebrated enough. My family also really needs and wants beautiful portraits of my grandparents! So, after expressing my frustration to my Dad he called my Mama and asked her if she would. He told her all about my business and how I help women learn to love themselves. She loved what my business was about and agreed!!!
I cannot express in words how happy I was!! I screamed and jumped up and down, all of it. I truly was so happy!!!
I think my FAVORITE part was picking out their clothes and putting on my Mama's makeup. She is gorgeous. Even if she doesn't see it. And while I am not a makeup artist I must say I am pretty proud of how I did!
We spent probably 30 minutes in the bathroom laughing and doing her makeup. My sister helped some because she is also pretty good with makeup and it was perfect. A blast. Why didn't I think to have Michelle and I take pictures of the makeup happening? Gosh that was half the fun!!!
I picked out her clothes first. And since I know she has a style different from mine I had her show me her favorite pieces. That way she wouldn't feel uncomfortable. Because, if you are uncomfortable it.shows. I also asked her to show me what she normally wears on her face and what she liked. Same reason. And from there we made magic. I also picked out my Papa's clothes. That was fun! He's not a girl, obviously, but he still needs to be comfortable and happy so I had him pick his favorite pieces and then I chose from there. He liked it. Even if he isn't one to show a lot of emotion, I could literally feel his giddiness! (Feeling others emotions is something I have always been good at but just realized was a thing. I can feel people's energy. I am fascinated by that!!)
I have had some amazing photo shoots in my life. Some styled, some with clients. That’s a lie. Every session I have ever had left me feeling amazing and like I really am changing women’s lives. Every.single.one. But, this one holds a very very VERY special place in my heart. They are two of my favorite people and they have truly taught me so much about life. Just watching them live and love has been worth more than gold. I cannot wait to blow these pictures up and hang them on my walls and on my family's walls!
