The #1 Tip to Rock Your Photoshoot!
Sunday I had a friend and amazing photographer take my head shots. (Pictures to come soon!) Which was a blast just in case anyone was wondering! She is an amazing photographer and that definitely helped and made this a million times easier. Because when your photographer knows what she is doing she or he can get amazing photos without it feeling like work at all!
But there was one thing I was doing to help on my end as well! And it made a huge difference!
The #1 Tip is...
THINK POSITIVE/CONFIDENCE IS KEY!
Seriously, this is so incredibly important! I would catch myself thinking, “Oh God, I hate my awkward, long body. It just doesn’t do cute things.” Or, “Oh God that made me look fat!” And then, I would stop myself INSTANTLY when these thoughts came to my head. I would make a conscious decision to not think so negatively about myself or my body.
After I caught myself, I would replace this evil, negativity with something positive about our session to redirect my thinking! Something like “Your outfit is seriously so awesome! It conveys who you are perfectly!” “You look SO badass in that pose. Like a strong woman who knows what she wants and is taking it!” Or something as small as “Your joy really showed through in that one.”
Because, if you are thinking negatively IT SHOWS!!! Trust me girl! Your face and body will automatically become less fluid and relaxed. You won’t be natural at.all! I know this because, well, as a women’s photographer it is my job, literally, to know what a woman's body language is saying about her. I have to read a woman’s face and body to know how to talk to them, if I need to be goofy or more calm & positive. If I can’t read a woman’s body language, I won’t be able to create the most incredible portraits they’ve ever taken. Therefore, I knew I had to be positive! And Anna, being the amazing photographer she is, knew exactly what I needed at each moment. Whether that was goofy, serious, direction, calm, or whatever. She probably didn’t even know she was reading me like she was. I certainly didn’t really consciously realize I did this at sessions until I sat and really thought on how I kept my emotions in check and exuded confidence the entire time. And then it clicked that I knew, subconsciously, that my thoughts come out in photographs. And if my thoughts weren’t on how badass of an entrepreneur I am and how damn good I looked, I would not have exuded that at all in my photographs.
Ladies, your thoughts are the most powerful tool you possess. It’s written about in the Bible as well as in any advice given on success. Your mind is more powerful than people give it credit. Keeping your thoughts focused on positivity is important for all things in your life! I really cannot stress this enough ladies! We are too damn incredible to spend time being negative! Negativity is soul-sucking!
Philippians 4:8
"8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."
