The Agora Borealis | Shreveport-Bossier Business Feature

The Agora Borealis has been a place of great joy and peace for me for years.

If I remember correctly, Katy Larsen (owner of The Agora Borealis) and I got connected when she had a huge yardsale in the space connected to The Agora Borealis, her art market. She is such a sweet friend and HUGE supporter of the Shreveport community, specifically all us artists. She’s seriously one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met!

Being near her just brings calm and joy!

I think the most incredible thing about her is her light. She is genuinely one of the best people on this planet and her love is seriously an outpouring!

Every time I walk into The Agora Borealis (what a cool name btw! But more on that in a minute) I am just surrounded by beautiful art of all kinds. There’s food, clothes, wall art, furniture, artisan home goods, jewelry, decor, beauty items, etc. The list is endless and all encompassing.

All local

All handmade

All art

It’s a small haven and I never want to leave. And I also want to buy so much art!

Now back to the name!

Agora is a greek word meaning an open market.

Aurora Borealis, is the northern lights.

So, a combo of one of the most beautiful and colorful things on this earth, and a market. It’s such a wonderful name for this art market!

The events.

Probably the biggest event Katy hosts is her annual fashion show!

Talk.about.amazing!!

I was at the very first one years ago and was completely awestruck. I was having a bad day, and I don’t remember when. I was still young, and I decided to go to her fashion show at The Agora even though I was sad and alone. I had no one to go with!

I mean, I had Trey, but that was so not his jam. He would probably go now, but, we were young. Lol.

This fashion show was honestly the most incredible thing I’d ever been to. I felt so important just being there!

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to go since then (much like other events I love) I either haven’t been able to afford it or already have something scheduled that day, or had a baby.

She also has a carnival in the spring. Obviously that isn’t happening right now though, and her store is closed. Which isn’t just hurting her ability to feed her family, but also hurting the artists/business owners who sell their handmade goods in her art market!

Thankfully, she is selling some super cool baskets of health, home, and care items for pick up! They are for your own sanity in these hard times and for keeping food in families mouths!

You can check them out, buy local, and support families at these two links!
